The morning of Saturday 12th July saw 16 of the UK’s best match anglers arrive at Cudmore Fishery, Staffs, to battle it out for the title of 2014 Fish O’Mania Champion and leave £30,000 richer – amongst them, top young match star, Andy Power.

Andy is no stranger to big-money finals, with this, his third Fish O’Mania Final and having qualified for all three previous Match This finals including winning one of them!

After setting up a myriad of rigs, top kits and rods, Andy would be ready for any eventuality.

Andy started looking for a carp, using a long line and Tyson 2 Dibber set only a few inches deep, he tried to target some of the big carp cruising around on the surface of the water. After 10 minutes without a fish Andy decided to switch to his Pellet Waggler rod. Within an hour Andy had caught one carp and lost another foul-hooked fish.

After a quiet spell the Somerset ace switched to his worm line, Andy managed to put 3 kilos of skimmers and roach on the scales in a short space of time, boosting him up the leaderboard into contention. Although the fishing was very hard, other anglers around Andy were managing to catch odd carp, and before long would start to pull away with the lead.

A change to a Banjo Feeder loaded with 4mm Pellets, Andy managed to snare two more carp in short succession giving him a much needed boost up the leader board.

Unfortunately, these were to be the last two carp of a very difficult match. Andy finished only two fish behind the winner, and after weighing 14.58kilo’s the backed angler finished in a very respectable 3rd place.
